writing..it's not for everyone.

So I have been trying to think of the possible things that I might enjoy doing since it seems that lately video games have not been able to satisfy my craving for entertainment. Recently in my English class we went over a essay that is in one of our books about free writing. Free-writing is a concept that goes a little something like this: put pen to paper and write for a certain amount of time ( 10-15 minutes) and don't edit yourself. While I find this to be a helpful exercise for class , I can say that as far as a replacement activity I don't think it is for me. My attention span does not work well with extended periods of concentration, as much as I would like to think that someday I might be able to write something meaningful or even something witty that would be seen by the masses, I think writing is not that outlet for me.

I have recently also tried my hand at making videos to post on youtube and streaming live on twitch.tv but again these are things that take time to edit, as well as the fact that there are already countless other people on-line making these types of videos and already have a foothold on their niche what ever that may be. While I will keep making videos I can probably say that they will only be of the non professional quality.

The one thing I have noticed since I have been back in school and dealing with classes that are of more interest to me. My interest in school has increased 10 fold to the point that I wish I was able to go full time. Currently I am what is considered a ¾ time student I am taking three courses and so far the two computer classes have been very compelling to me; however, my interest in English is still at an all time low, I do not know how I can garner more interest in it. I know that the college system wants people to have a good understanding of how the English language works and by all accounts we should have that understanding after high school. I feel that even though there is one aspect of the class that may be beneficial in the long run and that is covering critical thinking, now I would say that this would be a very good topic to cover for someone who is coming out of high school but for someone that has already been in the working world for the past 20 years, somehow real world experiences would account for something. Regardless I will follow through with what the school deems is necessary for my degree I can honestly say that I do not think I will actually pursue my 4 year degree for a couple of different reasons, most notably my extreme dislike of math and while I can see that if a person was going to seek a degree involving engineering or finance of some sort the path that
I am choosing to follow should not require the extent that colleges want.

This might be where I say that as a structured society and civilization where education is prevalent in many different parts of the world, I think the pyramid framework for education is wrong and needs to be corrected. Life experience should not only be take in to consideration when a student enrolls in college but it should be a building block from where to progress from when someone applies.

Now I shall continue this later but I think my soapbox is only going to continue to grow.... who knows maybe writing is something that I deep down do have a desire to speak my voice through words so that you may read them.
